CS v. 1.1.2 and CCS v. 2.4, for reference. These appear to be the most up-to-date versions of both mods.

For example, if I'm in an area with an ambient temperature of 69°F, putting one bucket of lava into a fluid tank and standing next to it will raise the temperature to 82°F. Staking an additional tank on top, without adding any more lava, will cause the temperature to increase to 96°F, another on top of that will increase the temperature to 109°F, and so on. Similarly, adding three more tanks on the same horizontal as the initial tank, but no more lava, will cause the temperature to jump from 82°F to 117°F. Increasing a tank's size both horizontally and vertically causes temperatures to get even more out of control, at 167°F for a two-by-two tank with one bucket of lava inside it.

I'd expect that the temperature would instead scale off of fluid volume, and not the size of the container it's in.
